Happy one year Anniversary to Nova Scotia Explorer!
In September 2019 I bought the url for this website while at a travel blogging conference in Italy after suggestions from friends. Niche blogs in the travel industry were becoming more popular and I thought Nova Scotia would be the perfect niche for me. I held onto the url for a few months and finally started building the website in January 2020. Then we all know what happened that March, the whole world basically shut down and travel almost became non-existent because of COVID-19.
I suddenly had a lot of time on my hands as the world stopped which gave me more time to work on my site. Finally on July 6, 2020 I officially launched NovaScotiaExplorer.com. I am excited now to celebrate it’s one year anniversary with all of you!
This website has been a precious gift and has allowed me to explore a lot more of my home province and share it with the world. I got to explore way more than I ever would have. I visited many places that I had never been, found new favourite places to eat, explored some amazing beaches, went chasing waterfalls, made new friends, and I feel like I still haven’t even scratched the surface of what our amazing province has to offer.
Thank you for supporting Nova Scotia Explorer
I want to give a big thanks to all of my supporters this past year. From friends and family who have encouraged me, to people who have guest posted, people who have let me use their images, people who have supported me literally and more. Also I’d like to give a big thanks to the people that have promoted me whether it was as simple as a RT on Twitter or interviewing me for the news or radio. A big thanks also goes to the various tourism boards, tour operators, businesses, accommodations and more that have worked with me this past year especially Tourism Nova Scotia.
I created this site to promote and encourage tourism and exploration in Nova Scotia and I hope to keep doing it for many more years to come. If we haven’t worked together yet be sure to connect with me on social or at [email protected]
Nova Scotia Explorer Anniversary Giveaway!
To celebrate this milestone I want to share some of my favourite local Nova Scotian things with you with a HUGE giveaway!
A Bougie Box Charcuterie for 2-4 people
I have always been a big charcuterie fan and have eaten some of the best around the world. I’ve had the finest jamon iberico in Spain, in Italy I’ve eaten the finest culatello and so much more. In 2020 and 2021 charcuterie boxes became trendy across TikTok and Instagram. Many self made charcuterie businesses popped up online including locally on Instagram in Nova Scotia. Featuring not only tasty charcuterie but also local cheese, desserts, crackers, bread, fruits, local honey and more.
Bougie Box Charcuterie owned and operated by the lovely Yesir quickly became one of my favouites. You can tell she puts a lot of thought and care into making the boxes and they are so reasonably priced. Check her out on Instagram and DM to order.
For this giveaway she is graciously providing a Bougie Box which feeds 2-4 people. The Bougie Box is an assortment of specialty meats, cheese and a combination of local fruits, vegetables, crackers and nuts. Also included are macaroons and local jam or honey. Pair this box with your favourite Nova Scotian wine or craft beer and cider for a delicious treat!
A Wine Tour for two with the Magic Winery Bus
Several years ago I took a sommelier course in Halifax so that I could better understand and write and create content about wine. Now eight years later I still haven’t quite completed the course (it’s really hard!) but I do appreciate and love wine so much more. Especially our local Nova Scotian wines. With over 20 vineyards and 70+ grape growers in the province there is so much local wine to love and learn about, but where do you start?
The Magic Winery Bus tour is an awesome vineyard tour operator located in Wolfville in the Annapolis Valley. They offer a guided double decker wine tour experience visiting four different vineyards in the region. Not only does the Magic Winery Bus take you to some of the very best vineyards we have but they also provide you with tons of wine history, information, facts and entertainment. The guides can suggest the best wine pairings, they give you time to enjoy tastings at every stop, and you also have time to make many wine purchases. They also of course drive you everywhere so no designated driver is needed and they can tour you around safely.
For this giveaway they are providing a Thursday or Friday wine tour for two! To learn more about their tours available and what is included this their site magicwinerybus.ca
A One Night Stay for up to four people at the Valley Sky Luxury Camping Domes!
If you have been following me on Instagram, Facebook or TikTok you have seen how much I love the Valley Sky Luxury Camping Domes! Located in Wolfville just 2kms past Luckett’s Vineyard these charming geodesic domes are luxury in the woods. Each dome sleeps four people, two on the main level and two in the loft where you can open the ceiling panels and sleep under the stars.
These luxury glamping domes come fully equipped with a mini kitchenette, full bathroom, dining table, chairs for lounging, and a propane stove to heat the dome on cool nights and winter months. On the outdoor private deck there is also a BBQ, fire table and the best part, a private hot tub. These domes also happen to be the prefect place to enjoy a delicious charcuterie box with your new wine purchases after you tour some of the nearby vineyards in Wolfville.
For this contest there will be ONE winner who can win: 1x Bougie Box, 2 x Magic Winery Bus tour tickets for a Thursday/Friday tour and a 1 night stay for up to four people at the Valley Sky Luxury Camping. To enter to win follow the prompts below.
The contest is open from today, July 6th, 2021, and closes at 12pm AST on Monday, July 12th, 2021 to Nova Scotians ONLY and must be 19+. (Sorry, everyone else.) Winners will be chosen at random and contacted on July 13th, 2021.

Happy anniversary to a great blog!
One of my favourite places to travel to in Nova Scotia would have to be Carter’s Beach. I love that it has nice white sand , three beaches in one , and has waters that look like you would see down south. People say it’s cold, but me and my aunt and children swam in it for hours when we went and it was fine. It was an amazing experience and we definitely will be going again this summer 😍❤️🌊🏖

Paddling with Pilot Whales off the coast of the Cape Breton Highlands National Park was a life-changing experience. The whales surfaced, surrounded our kayaks, and made eye contact. Some of the whales had babies who swam in unison with their moms.
For a half-hour they followed us, swimming alongside. I can still hear the waves and the sound of a pod of whales blowing each time they surfaced.
Such a magical moment – when my then 5-year-old decided to become a marine biologist, (graduated from Dalhousie in 2018!)
Happy anniversary! What a way to celebrate! Love following along on your adventures!
I just love the Summer for the cantine mozza fries and moon mist ice cream.
